"Sweet,

crispy & wonderfully simple"

Baklava, but without phyllo dough, sticky fingers, and kitchen chaos? Sounds crazy, but tastes amazing. This Baklava Toast is crispy, sweet, and spiced— a quick treat that feels like dessert but is also perfect for breakfast.

#CustardToast went viral on TikTok in early 2022 — about time for an upgrade! Instead of the classic egg custard, here's a plant-based version made from soy yogurt, maple syrup, and a dash of magic — specifically: cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. Chickpea flour gives it the perfect consistency, and pistachios provide that essential Baklava crunch.

The preparation is super easy: lightly press the toast, spread the creamy filling on top, sprinkle pistachios, and pop it in the oven. In just ten minutes, your breakfast or dessert will be ready for its final touch: a drizzle of maple syrup, then take a bite. By the first bite, you'll be wondering why you didn't make this much sooner.

PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

The Baklava Toast already tastes fantastic on its own, but with the right extra, it becomes unbeatable. For example, you could have a scoop of pistachio, vanilla, or coconut ice cream on the side — perfect when the toast is fresh out of the oven and the ice cream slowly melts. If you prefer something fruity, fresh strawberries or bananas also pair wonderfully. The freshness of the fruit creates a nice contrast to the sweetness and intense flavors of the Baklava Toast.

  4. Prepare the toast: Gently press the center of the toast slices with your hands to create space for the filling.
  5. Spread the filling and add pistachios: Distribute the yogurt mixture onto the pressed areas of the toast slices and sprinkle the chopped pistachios on top.
  6. Bake: Place the toast slices in the preheated oven at 200°C for about 10 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Finalize: After baking, drizzle some maple syrup over the toast slices and enjoy!
